Exterior Protection Detail on a 2014 BMW 535d in Carbon Black Metallic
This 2014 BMW 535d came to my workshop at Murray Business Park, Paisley for an Exterior Protection Detail. The aim was to give its Carbon Black Metallic paintwork a fresh start and the protection it needs to stay looking sharp.
The challenge: Carbon Black Metallic paintwork
Dark metallics like Carbon Black look stunning when they’re clean and glossy, but they pick up marks easily and show every bit of road film. Over time, built-up grime and bonded contaminants dull the finish and make the car look tired, however often it gets washed.
The preparation: wash and decontamination
Before any protection went on, I fully washed and decontaminated the 535d. This strips away built-up grime and bonded contaminants that a normal wash won’t shift, leaving a clean, smooth surface ready for protection. Good preparation matters because a coating can only bond properly to paint that is properly clean.
The protection: ceramic coating
I then sealed the paintwork with a ceramic coating. It gives the 535d:
- A high quality, glossy finish that suits the Carbon Black Metallic
- Up to 12 months of paint protection against UV rays, road grime, bird droppings and everyday contaminants
- A slicker surface that makes the car much easier to keep clean between washes
