Two Stage Machine Polish & Feynlab V2 Ceramic Coating – Audi A8 Quattro, Mythos Black Metallic
This Audi A8 Quattro came to DMD Car Detailing in Mythos Black Metallic, one of the toughest colours to get right when it comes to paint correction. Deep, dark metallics like this show every swirl mark, wash-induced scratch, and holographic haze under direct light, so the finish has to be genuinely flawless — not just "good in the shade."
The A8 was booked in for my Minor Paint Correction service, carried out as a two-stage machine polish. This process is designed to remove light to moderate swirl marks, wash marring, and surface imperfections without the more aggressive levelling required for heavier defects, restoring true depth and clarity to the paintwork while keeping clear coat removal to a minimum.
The Two-Stage Machine Polish Process
Every correction detail starts with a full decontamination wash to strip away traffic film, iron deposits, and bonded contaminants that would otherwise interfere with polishing. Once the paint was clean and contaminant-free, we worked through:
- Stage one – cutting polish: A cutting compound and pad combination to remove the bulk of the swirl marks and light scratching from the Mythos Black paintwork.
- Stage two – finishing polish: A finer polish and pad step to refine the finish, remove any polishing haze, and bring out maximum clarity and gloss in the black paint.
The result is a deep, reflective, swirl-free finish that shows off exactly what Mythos Black Metallic is capable of when it's properly corrected rather than masked with fillers.
Locking In the Finish with Feynlab V2 Ceramic Coating
With correction complete, the A8 was protected using Feynlab V2 ceramic coating, applied across the full exterior. Feynlab V2 is a durable, professional-grade ceramic coating that bonds to the paintwork to give:
- Long-term chemical and UV resistance, helping to prevent fading and oxidation
- Excellent hydrophobic properties for easier washing and reduced water spotting
- A hard, glossy, scratch-resistant layer that protects the correction work underneath
- Enhanced depth and gloss that suits dark metallic colours particularly well
Pairing a two-stage correction with a ceramic coating means the swirl-free finish achieved during polishing is protected going forward, rather than left exposed to the same wash marring and environmental damage that caused the original defects.
The Result
The finished Audi A8 Quattro shows the kind of sharp, glassy reflection that dark metallic paint should have — deep black with genuine clarity, not the dull, swirl-hazed look so many black and dark grey cars develop over time.
