Major Paint Correction Paisley – Mini Cooper Clubman
Major Paint Correction on a Enigmatic Black Mini Cooper Clubman – Paisley & Glasgow
Mini Cooper Clubman — Full Transformation. This Enigmatic Black Metallic Clubman came in with visible swirl marks and light scratching — common on darker paintwork where every imperfection shows. I carried out a full paint correction to restore a smooth, mirror-like finish, then sealed it with a Carbon Collective ceramic coating for lasting protection against UV rays, road grime, and everyday wear.
Paint Inspection & Assessment
Before any polishing began, the paintwork was inspected under high-intensity lighting to map out the full extent of the damage, swirl marks, RDS (random deep scratches) Paint depth readings were taken across every panel to confirm there was enough clear coat to safely correct without risk of burning through — a step that's especially important on factory paint like this, where clear coat thickness can vary panel to panel.
The Correction Process
The Mini underwent a multi-stage machine polish, carried out in 3 stages:
- Stage one – heavy cutting compound: to remove the deepest scratches and oxidation.
- Stage two – refining polish: to eliminate any micro-marring (holograms) left behind by the cutting stage.
- Stage three – finishing polish: for maximum clarity, depth, and gloss.
Each panel was worked individually and checked under LED inspection lighting between stages to make sure no defects were missed before moving on.
Ceramic Coating Protection
Once the paint was corrected to a flawless standard, it was protected with Carbon Collective Ceramic Coating — a coating chosen for its durability and the deep, glossy finish it brings out in darker, richer colours like Enigmatic Black.
Benefits of this stage:
- Multi-stage correction – swirl marks, scratches, and imperfections fully removed
- Enhanced gloss & depth – the true colour of the paint restored
- Durable ceramic protection – a hydrophobic layer that shields against UV, contamination, and everyday wear
- Easier maintenance – dirt and water bead and slide off, making future washes faster and safer for the paint
The Result
The result is a deep, sophisticated black, but direct light or sunlight reveals rich metallic blue and purple undertones that shift the colour's appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is major paint correction? Major paint correction is a multi-stage machine polishing process designed to remove significant paint defects — deep swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, and holograms — that a single-stage polish can't fully correct. It typically involves cutting, refining, and finishing stages to restore the paint to as close to flawless as possible.
How long does major paint correction take? 5 days to a week — the exact time depends on the size of the vehicle, the extent of the paint defects, and the number of correction stages needed.
How much does major paint correction cost? Pricing varies depending on vehicle size and paint condition — see my Price List or get in touch for a personalised quote.
Does paint correction remove scratches completely? Most swirl marks and light-to-moderate scratches can be fully removed, provided they haven't penetrated through the clear coat. Deeper scratches may be reduced but not fully eliminated without risking clear coat thickness.
Why add a ceramic coating after correction? A ceramic coating locks in the corrected finish, protects against UV fading, bird droppings, and road grime, and makes the paint significantly easier to keep clean — protecting the work that's just been done.
